Aims of the Course The objective of this course is to provide students with the ability to analyze the historical development, structural transformation, and macroeconomic performance of the Turkish economy within the framework of economic theory. In this regard, the course aims to examine the economic policies implemented from the founding of the Republic until 1980, the processes of liberalization and financial deregulation after 1980, and the effects of these processes on the Turkish economy. Within the scope of the course, the causes and consequences of the economic crises of 1994, 1998, and 2001, the macroeconomic stability and structural adjustment policies implemented following these crises, and the effects of the 2008 global financial crisis on the Turkish economy are addressed. Furthermore, it is intended to evaluate fundamental macroeconomic issues such as economic growth, inflation, unemployment, public finance, and external economic balances from a historical and theoretical perspective. The course aims to enable students to analyze the structural and conjunctural problems facing the Turkish economy, question the effectiveness of the implemented economic policies, and develop alternative policy proposals.
