HISTORY of FACULTY of LETTERS

The Faculty of Letters was established in 1993 as a result of the restructuring of Anadolu University, with the Decree Law No. 496. The Faculty of Letters aims to reveal our cultural values under the guidance of reason and science, to protect them and transfer them to future generations, as well as to raise young people who are at peace with themselves, who perceive the contemporary world, and who are the assurance of our future. The Faculty of Letters started education with 3 departments: Art History and Archeology, History and Sociology. It served formal and external students for the first four years. In the 1998-1999 academic year, Art History and Archeology Department was divided into two as Art History Department and Archeology Department. Then, the Department of Turkish Language and Literature in the 1999-2000 academic year, the Philosophy Department in the 2007-2008 academic year, the Russian Language and Literature Department in the 2010-2011 academic year, and finally the Psychology Department in the 2021-2022 academic year started to admit students. The Department of Translation and Interpretation will start admitting students in the coming years. Established on an area of 14,960m2 in Anadolu University Yunus Emre Campus, the Faculty provides services with its renovated and equipped classrooms and laboratories supported by technological infrastructure. Between 2014-2020, the Departments of Archeology, Philosophy, Art History, Sociology, History and Turkish Language and Literature were accredited by FEDEK. The new application was made in 2021 and was re-accredited until 2024. Our students can benefit from Farabi, Erasmus and Mevlana programs, receive foreign language education if they wish, and have the opportunity to do optional internships and work in the public and private sectors.
