The Faculty of Communication Sciences at Anadolu University was established in 1972. In its year of establishment, it was named the Academic Closed Circuit Television Education Institute and enrolled its first students in 1977. Due to the fact that it only provided education in the fields of cinema and television, it was renamed the College of Cinema and Television, and was incorporated into the Eskişehir Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences as the Faculty of Education and Teaching with Television in 1979. The following year was the first time in the history of the country that the word ‘communication’ was used in the name of a scientific establishment, and the school started providing education in cinema and television as the Faculty of Communication Sciences.

In 1982, the Communication Arts, Publication and Press, and the Educational Communication and Planning departments were established within the faculty in addition to the Cinema and Television department. Within this restructuring, the faculty was affixed to the Anadolu Faculty of Open Education. The faculty regained its individual identity in 1991 as the ‘College of Communication Sciences’ within Anadolu University, and achieved its final status as the ‘Faculty of Communication Sciences’ in 1992. During the restructuring of departments in 2001, the Department of Communication Arts was renamed to Advertising and Public Relations, the Publication and Press department became the Journalism department, with the letter of the Presidency of the Council of Higher Education dated 30.06.2022, the name of the Press and Broadcasting Department was changed to the Journalism Department. In 2002 the department of Educational Communication and Planning was restructured as the Department of Communication. In 2008, the Advertising and Public Relations department was renamed the Public Relations and Advertising Department, and lastly the Department of Communication was renamed Communication Design and Management in 2011.
