Week - 2 Simple Modulations and Syncopated Rhythms • Theory: Transition to close tonalities (dominant, subdominant modulation) • Rhythm: Introduction to 6/8 meter, rhythmic analysis of syncopated examples • Dictation: Short rhythm dictation in 6/8 meter • Reading: Reading short melodies with modulation
Week - 3 Temporary Tonalities and 6/8 Measure Applications • Theory: What is temporary tonality, how is it defined? • Dictation: 6/8 and 2/4 transitional rhythms • Rhythm: Accent locations and characteristic structures in 6/8 measure • Reading: Analysis of melodies containing temporary tonality
Week - 4 Introduction to Uneven Meters (9/8) • Theory: Uneven rhythm structures (2+2+2+3 etc.) • Rhythm: Introduction to 9/8 meter and analysis • Dictation: Short rhythmic motifs in 9/8 meter • Reading: Modal melody reading exercises in 9/8 meter
