  • Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the historical, political, social, and cultural context in which the Turkish Republic was founded. Students will be able to analyze and evaluate the role of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and other key figures in the Turkish Revolution, and their contributions to the establishment of a modern, secular, and democratic nation-state. Students will be able to identify and explain the main principles and values of the Turkish Republic, including but not limited to: democracy, human rights, rule of law, nationalism, and secularism. Students will be able to critically examine and interpret primary and secondary sources related to the history of Turkish Revolution and its legacy, and to develop and present arguments based on evidence. Students will be able to communicate effectively in oral and written forms about the history, politics, and culture of the Turkish Republic, and to engage in respectful and constructive dialogue with people from different backgrounds and perspectives. Students will be able to apply the knowledge and skills gained in the course to real-world situations, such as current events in Turkey or other countries, and to reflect on their own role as responsible and active citizens.
