| Profile of the Programme

The Programme of Social Studies Education is a bachelor's degree programme in the Department of Primary Education in the Faculty of Education. The programme offers courses on vocational knowledge, general knowledge and practice in the field. Students can also take elective courses. Lessons are carried out both theoretically and practically. Theoretical courses are carried out in classes equipped with technological facilities. Practical courses are given in three academic terms with collaboration of Faculty of Education, Provincial Directorates of National Education, and Training Primary Schools and with the supervision of course teachers and teachers in training schools. The Programme of Social Studies Teacher Education provide an interdisciplinary approach based on social sciences such as History, Geography and Civics. The Programme of Social Studies Teacher Education has similar characteristics with Programme of Primary School Education in Department of Primary Education. The Programme of Social Studies Teacher Education was founded in the academic year of 1998 to train social studies teachers who will teach in the second stage of Primary Education (6th - 8th grades). It has accepted students since the academic year of 1998-1999. Approximately 50 students are admitted to the programme each year.The Programme of Social Studies Teacher Education in Faculty of Education, which is located at Anadolu University, has 2 associate professors, 4 assistant professors, 3 lecturers and 2 research assistants. The decisions which are related to the programme are made by the department academic board. The department academic board consists of the head of department, two deputy heads of department and heads of programmes.
