  • General Information

The Department of Russian Language and Literature is an academic unit dedicated to the study of Russian language, literature, history, and culture with an analytical and critical approach at universal scientific standards. Our primary mission is not only to educate individuals with high language proficiency but also to cultivate contemporary researchers and experts capable of conducting independent scientific research on Russian literature and culture, equipped with the skills of literary criticism and linguistic analysis.

The undergraduate program in our department, where the medium of instruction is Russian, commenced in the 2010-2011 academic year. In order to meet contemporary educational standards and provide students with a strong philological foundation, a compulsory Russian preparatory class was introduced in the 2016-2017 academic year. Our curriculum is supported by comprehensive studies in literature, history, translation studies, and culture, in addition to basic language acquisition skills such as reading, listening, speaking, and writing.

Our department serves as a bridge for students who aim to contribute to the field at an academic level. Students graduating from our program can continue their careers in master's and doctoral programs with the strong theoretical and methodological background they have acquired, advancing towards becoming expert academicians in their respective fields.

Graduates of the Russian Language and Literature Department have a wide employment network in both the public and private sectors thanks to their superior language and cultural competencies. In addition to working at universities and various educational institutions, our graduates can work in public institutions such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Embassies, the National Intelligence Organization (MİT), the Directorate of Communications, the Turkish Armed Forces, the Presidency of Religious Affairs, and Customs. They can also successfully pursue their careers in private sector fields such as foreign trade companies, the tourism sector (as licensed tour guides), Turkish Airlines (THY), TRT, media organizations, law firms, and corporate companies providing professional translation and interpreting services.
