LO-1
This course aims to examine the interactions and origins of different art disciplines and mediums. |
LO-2
The interaction between visual and verbal structures will be examined through works that reveal the materiality of linguistic elements. |
LO-3
Throughout art history, the trajectory of spatialized, plastic, and digitized thought, of materialized, objectified, and visualized language, and of paintings, images, and objects seeking meaning, needing writing, and finding expression will be explored. |
LO-4
Within the realm of experimentation in art, the focus will be on images in language, the interaction between images and texts, and works of art made from words. |
LO-5
Thus, the works of artists who give a plastic identity to linguistic signs and treat visual images like texts (primarily Cubists, Dadaists, Russian avant-garde, concrete poets, and conceptual artists) can be better understood. |
LO-6
Art can be understood not only as art confined to texts or enclosed within gallery walls, but also as art that transcends the white emptiness of book pages and the white cube. |
LO-7
Under the heading of Language and Art, the ways in which artists working with their hands or mechanical/digital means of production approach language and objects, and their political and poetic stances, will be examined as an alternative map of contemporary art. |
