Assessment methods and criteria |
Under the semester credit system (ECTS) adopted along with the Bologna Process towards the accomplishment of European Higher Education Area, there will be one (1) written midterm exam and one (1) written final exam (both in classic essay/open-end exam style). The weights of these exams in calculation of a student’s latest numerical raw mark are as follows. Midterm: 40%Final: 60% Letter grades will be determined according to the course average, the standard deviation that are computed by enrolled students’ latest raw marks of at least 40 and ensuing Z-score and T-score for each of these students. The ultimate numerical marks (i.e. the associated T-scores) will be converted to letter grades as in A. Ü. Açıköğretim, İktisat, İşletme Fakülteleri Dönemlik Kredili Sistem Ölçme ve Değerlendirme Kılavuzu (Semester Credit System Assessment and Evaluation Guide of the A. U. Open Education, Economics, Management Faculties). The difference here is that the raw mark threshold which is also the minimum pass grade considered in the computation of the course average mark is 40, as identified by the decision of the Economics Department Board, instead of 25. That is to say, any student whose latest raw mark falls below 40 (or be within the range 0-39.9) will get a letter grade FF and fail the course. The mark of this student will not be considered in the course average. There is a minimum of 70% attendance requirement as per the rules and regulations accepted and executed by the University and this situation is monitored through the card register system. Therefore the system records will not be intervened; there will not be any nonattendance deletion and such requests will be refused. Any student whose nonattendance exceeds the specified amount will get a letter grade DZ and fail the course. |
