Aims of the Course

Weeks Learning Outcomes Topics Teaching Methods
Week - 1 Remembering technical fundamentals of photography. Introduction to photojournalism.
Week - 2 Exploring the three variables of exposure: Aperture, Shutterspeed and ISO, their reciproal mathematical relationship, and the aesthetic consequences of manipulating each variable.
Week - 3 Examining optics, lenses, and understanding light before exploring composition. Depth of field, and its relationship to focal length and f-stop.
Week - 4 Understanding how photos interplay with news story to construct meaning. Photojournalism ethics.
Week - 5 Photographing objects, places and events. Journalist perspective for news photo taking
Week - 6 Photographing social events.
Week - 7 Midterm Exam
Week - 8 Evaluating homework: Event speeker's photo.
Week - 9 Spot news, general news, street photography, off-beat photography, and documentary photography, war photography and crime news' photography.
Week - 10 Photo Essay: Visual storytelling, a way to present a narrative through a series of images. Photo Essay Examples.
Week - 11 Interesting photo essay ideas: Everyday life photo essay, historic site photo essay, behind-the-scenes photo essay, local event photo essay.
