The Associate Degree Program in Theology was established within the Open Education Faculty in 1998. In the 2010–2011 academic year, the program was converted from an annual absolute system to a semester-based credit system. Largely overlapping with the first two years of the on-campus Theology Bachelor’s Program in terms of content, the Associate Degree Program in Theology was designed to provide similar educational opportunities to broader segments of society. Open to all individuals regardless of high-school background, age, or profession, the program aims to make sound and qualified religious knowledge accessible to wide audiences.

Admission to the programme is based on the relevant higher education legislation and the central placement procedures administered by the Centre for Assessment, Selection and Placement (ÖSYM). Candidates who are offered a place in the programme must complete their registration within the deadlines announced in the University's academic calendar and registration announcements, in accordance with the applicable legislation. To complete final registration, candidates must satisfy all general and programme-specific admission requirements. Admission through horizontal transfer is conducted in accordance with the relevant legislation and the principles established by the relevant academic unit. The application and admission procedures for international students are carried out in accordance with the applicable legislation.
Graduates of Imam Hatip (Imam Hatip High School / Imam Hatip School / Imam Hatip High School (which has mostly foreign language education) / Anatolian Imam Hatip High School) of secondary education institutions are placed in this program and in case of quota, other secondary education graduates are placed by exam.

Recognition of prior learning is carried out in accordance with the relevant higher education legislation, the University's regulations governing education, examinations and assessment, and the institutional principles for exemption and credit transfer. Students may apply, within the specified deadlines, for exemption and credit transfer based on courses successfully completed at another higher education institution or on equivalent prior learning. Applications are evaluated by the relevant board or commission with due consideration of course content, credit/ECTS values, grades obtained, and their compatibility with the curriculum and learning outcomes of the relevant programme.

The programme is delivered in open and distance mode. Students are enrolled on the programme as students. Teaching and learning activities are conducted in accordance with the programme curriculum, including the semester structure, scheduled class hours, practical components, and, where applicable, online learning environments.

Examinations and course passing are governed by the Anadolu University Open Education Faculty Regulations on Education and Examinations, the Implementation Principles for Education and Examinations in the Open Education, Faculty, and the Principles of the Student Evaluation System in the Open Education Faculty.

A student is required to successfully complete the designated program of courses meet a minimum of 120 ECTS credit requirement and have a minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00 and no FF, DZ or YZ grades.

To be awarded an Associate Degree, students must successfully complete all compulsory and elective courses specified in the curriculum of the programme in which they are enrolled, together with any required internship, practical training, project, or other academic requirements. To qualify for graduation, students must successfully complete at least 120 ECTS credits, have no failed courses, achieve the minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) specified in the relevant regulations (at least 2.00 on a 4.00 scale), and fulfil all other graduation requirements prescribed by the programme.

Students who successfully fulfil all programme requirements are awarded an Associate Degree Diploma in Theology Graduates obtain a Level 5 (Associate Degree) qualification within the Turkish Qualifications Framework (TQF).

Students who graduate from the Program in Theology of the Open Education Faculty take an "Associate Degree Diploma in Theology". Students who complete the program are given the title of "Vocational Personnel of Theology". Graduates may serve as imams or preachers within the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı); if they are graduates of an Imam Hatip High School or hafiz (those who have memorized the Qur’an), they may be appointed as Qur’an course instructors or muezzins providing religious services to various segments of society. In addition, they are eligible for civil service positions in various public institutions and organizations. After graduating from the Faculty of Open Education, Associate Degree Program in Theology students can apply for transfer to undergraduate programs in Theology, Arabic Language and Literature, Arabic Language Teaching, Persian Language and Literature. Students who graduate from the department have the opportunity to transfer to relevant on-campus education programs in accordance with the provisions of "Regulation on Transfer to Undergraduate Degree Programs for Graduates of Vocational Schools and Open Education Associate Degree Programs ".

Graduates of Associate Degree programmes may apply for admission to Bachelor's Degree programmes through the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS), in accordance with the provisions of the Regulation on the Continuation of Bachelor's Education for Graduates of Vocational Schools and Open Education Associate Degree Programmes and the relevant higher education legislation.
