  • Profile of the Programme

Psychology is a scientific discipline that aims at understanding and explaining the behavior. Focusing on the understanding and explaining the human behavior, psychology also deals with the behavior of other living species, especially that of animals. Treating human beings as a living organism, Psychology tries to benefit from the knowledge of fields such as Biology, Physiology, and Neurology. Treating human beings also as relational, social, societal, political and spiritual beings, Psychology benefits from the knowledge of fields such as Sociology, Political Science, Economics and Religion. Psychology analyzes the human behavior not only at the individual level but also at the relational, cultural and societal levels. For the development of these analyses, techniques, methods and tools as well as computer applications and programs are among the topics that people in Psychology are interested in.

In today's world, the importance of psychology is increasing in every sphere of life. At the same time, as a result of the prevalence of psychology, misinterpretation and misapplication of psychological concepts, theories, and approaches are very common in society. One of our main goals as a department is to share scientific and up-to-date information in the field of psychology through theoretical and practical courses with our students. Our other main goal is to raise individuals with competence and self-confidence that can contribute to their academic and practical psychological fields and society in the future.

Our department was indeed established long time ago in 1993 and arrange to welcome the first-time students very newly in the academic year of 2021-2022. We currently consist of six faculty members and expect new people to our department with interests in different sub-fields of psychology. The undergraduate program aims to provide our students with basic and up-to-date knowledge in sub-areas of Social, Developmental, Experimental, Clinical and Organizational psychology. At the same time, it is aimed that our undergraduate students gain knowledge, skills and competence in the history of psychology, ethical principles and practices in psychology, research methods used in psychology, and statistics. Our students are also expected to take compulsory/elective courses from departments/fields like Sociology, Philosophy, Anthropology, Biology.
