  • Profile of the Programme

Psychology, as a scientific discipline devoted to understanding and explaining human behavior, encompasses various areas of specialization such as developmental psychology, experimental/cognitive psychology, applied psychology, clinical psychology, social psychology, and industrial and organizational psychology. The primary rationale behind the proposed Master’s Program in General Psychology in our department is to provide graduates of four-year undergraduate psychology programs with a master’s degree in subfields including developmental psychology, social psychology, applied psychology, experimental/cognitive psychology, and industrial and organizational psychology.

Considering the increasing national and international interest in psychological science, graduate education in different areas of specialization is expected to make significant contributions to both academic research and applied practice. In order to become a faculty member in psychology or related disciplines at universities in Türkiye or abroad, it is necessary to complete master’s and doctoral education following undergraduate studies. Accordingly, the proposed Master’s Program in General Psychology aims to provide candidates with the master’s degree required prior to doctoral training. In addition, obtaining a master’s degree in one of the aforementioned subfields will provide an advantage for candidates who wish to pursue doctoral studies in the same or related areas.

Furthermore, the proposed program is expected to contribute significantly to the applied fields of psychology. Graduate education following undergraduate training will enhance the qualifications of professionals working in applied settings and strengthen their adherence to scientific principles and methods in practice. The program will also promote collaboration among professionals working in academic and applied areas of psychology and facilitate the broader dissemination of scientific knowledge produced in universities to society through practitioners in the field.

Finally, the Department of Psychology at Anadolu University was the first psychology department to offer undergraduate education in psychology in Eskişehir. Likewise, the proposed master’s program will be the first graduate program in psychology offered in Eskişehir. Therefore, it will provide an important opportunity for psychology graduates living in Eskişehir and surrounding provinces who wish to pursue graduate education in psychology.
