  • General Information

The primary aim of the Master's Program in Russian Language and Literature is to elevate the philological foundations acquired during undergraduate education to an advanced level, and to train researchers who are experts in their field, capable of conducting independent scientific research and producing knowledge at a universal standard. Our program envisions training prospective scholars who can conduct in-depth analyses on Russian literature, linguistics, history, and culture, who have a strong command of modern literary theories and critical methods, and who have fully adopted the principles of academic ethics.

Our Master's program with thesis, where the medium of instruction is Russian, consists of two main stages: the coursework period and the thesis stage. Our curriculum offers a rich range of elective and compulsory courses that enable specialization in areas such as advanced linguistic research, history of Russian literature, literary theory and criticism, translation studies, text analysis, and cultural studies. After successfully completing the coursework phase and seminar studies, students make a concrete academic contribution to the field by preparing a master's thesis in accordance with scientific research methods on an original topic, determined under the supervision of our expert faculty members.

Candidates who have graduated from undergraduate programs in Russian Language and Literature or related fields of philology/literature, and who meet the minimum score requirements set by the Institute of Graduate Studies for ALES (Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam) and YDS or equivalent foreign language proficiency exams, are admitted to the program. For graduation, students must successfully complete the prescribed course credit load and successfully defend their master's thesis before a jury.

Our graduates, who earn the master degree upon successfully completing the program, can continue their academic careers in Doctoral (Ph.D.) programs at domestic and international universities. They can also take part in the academic staff as research assistants or lecturers in relevant university departments. Furthermore, thanks to their advanced analytical thinking, language skills, and cultural background, they can be employed in high-level expert, researcher, consultant, and managerial positions in public and private sector organizations such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, embassies, international organizations, TRT, foreign trade companies, and qualified translation/publishing institutions.
