  • 1. Will be able to evaluate the public sphere concept within the historical process. 1.1. Explains the difference between bourgeois publicity in 18th century and civil society and commonwealth. 1.2. Defines the convergence of public sphere in 19th and 20th centuries by centering the media. 1.3. States the problem of democratization of public sphere in our day and opponent communities. 1.4. Interprets the meaning of civil society of our present-day and developments in the media.
  • 2. Will be able to explain the basic concepts and theories concerning social movements. 2.1. Defines the relationship between social movements and politics and democracy. 2.2. Explains the differentness and sameness of the concepts concerning the ideologic mass movements and civil new social movements through examples. 2.3. Discusses the civil disobedience movements and its reflections on Turkish media.
  • . Will be able to describe the new functions which media gained in local and global level. 3.1. States the place of new media in the process of demilitarization. 3.2. Evaluates the approaches concerning the demilitarization of local, regional and national media foundations. 3.3. Discusses the functions fulfilled by the global communication networks in the process of organizing the new social movements and associating with each other.
  • 4. Will be able to interpret the new social movements and their representation in the media. 4.1. Describes the media representations of new social movements in company with the examples from world and Turkish media. 4.2. Discusses the approach of Turkish media aimed at new social movements with authentic examples. 4.3. Predicts the representation of new social movements in the media and the form that it should take in the future. 4.4. Evaluates the Turkish media by preparing an authentic project as part of the new social movements at the end of the semester.
