  • The student: 2.1. distinguishes types of meaning, 2.2. defines semantic features, 1.3. explains semantic roles, 1.4. distinguishes lexical relations, 1.5. distinguishes entailment and presupposition.
  • By the end of the course, students will be able to define pragmatics as a sub-field of macro-linguistics.
  • The student: 2.1. distinguishes types of context, 2.2. defines speaker meaning, 2.3. defines reference and types of reference, 2.4. analyzes speech acts, 2.5. explains politeness theory and analyzes politeness patterns.
