Catalog Content This course examines how the idea of the modern emerges at the end of the 18th century in European art and develops through 19th and first half of 20th century. In this context, the course analyses the conceptual origins of modernity beginning from middle age until today. The course discusses avant-garde art movements as a result of modernism in art and post-modern philosophy and art as a criticism of modernity.
