Week - 1 General definition of the Byzantine minor arts; its sources and problems.
Week - 2 The classification of the artifacts with respect to materials. Distribution of artifacts in Turkish museums and abroad. The reasons why the artifacts are abroad.
Week - 3 Byzantine metalwork. Mines in Anatolia. Techniques of production and decoration. Classification of liturgical, lighting and daily used objects based on their functions.
Week - 4 Liturgical objects. Their uses in ceremonies. Chronological explanations of sample objects. Techniques, style and iconographical features.
Week - 5 The definition of the liturgical objects with respect to technique, style and iconography.
Week - 6 The definition of the liturgical objects with respect to technique, style and iconography.
Week - 7 Byzantine mine lamps. Lighting methods in the Byzantine period and the functions of mine lambs. Typological classification of metal lamps.
Week - 8 Midterm Exam
Week - 9 Byzantine jeweleries.
Week - 10 Byzantine ceramics. General definition. Production and decoration techniques.
Week - 11 The definition of the various types of Byzantine ceramics with respect to technique and style.
