Week - 1 Conceptual approaches to sports history (Cultural vs. Political perspectives). Sources of sports history in Turkey
Week - 2 Institutionalization of sport: The Archers' Lodge (Okçular Tekkesi). The concept of the Pîr (patron saint), the "Grip" (Kabza) ceremony, and the ethics of archery.
Week - 3 Philosophy and lodge structure of traditional wrestling. Oil wrestling (Yağlı Güreş), Karakucak, and the "Imperial Wrestlers" (Hassa Pehlivanları). The identity of the "Pehlivan" as a social and moral figure.
Week - 4 Cirit (Javelin) and Çevgan (Polo): Heritage from the Steppes to the Palace. Matrak: Transition from military drill to combat sport. Sports in Ottoman festivals.
Week - 5 Origins of palace competition Symbolism of rivalry in javelin and horsemanship competitions. Historical roots of modern club fanaticism in Turkey.
Week - 6 The shift in perception regarding physical education under Western influence. Introduction of gymnastics in military schools (Mühendishane and Mekteb-i Harbiye). The French school of gymnastics and the introduction of apparatus-based training.

Week - 8 The role of Galatasaray High School (Mekteb-i Sultani) as the cradle of modern sports. Selim Sırrı Tarcan and the influence of the Swedish Gymnastics system. Early examples of Western branches: Tennis and Track & Field.
Week - 9 From "Black Stockings FC" to organized leagues: The era of prohibited football.
Week - 10 Football in occupied Istanbul: The Friday and Sunday Leagues. The impact of matches against occupying forces on national consciousness (e.g., The General Harington Cup).
Week - 11 Late Ottoman Olympic attempts (Stockholm 1912). Establishment of the Turkish National Olympic Committee (TMOK). International representation and prestige during the early Republican era.
Week - 12 "Sturdy and Bold Children": Physical education as a tool for nation-building. The Alliance of Turkish Training Societies (TİCİ) and the Turkish Sports Body. Dissemination of sports through "People's Houses" (Halkevleri) and Village Institutes.
Week - 13 Evaluating the transition from traditional to modern. Reflections of political ideologies on the sporting field. Final Debate: Was sport a "tool for modernization" or a "culture of entertainment" in Turkey?
