The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry provides knowledge on topics such as design, syntheses and analyses of novel therapeutic compounds to obtain useful drugs, the construction of qualitative and quantitative relationships between chemical structures of drugs and their activities, chemical aspects of drug behaviour during the phases from the administration of drugs into the body to their excretion, etc. The principal education philosophy of the department has been to provide a sound professional training which has been consistent with the current scientific and technological developments, with the support of practice in laboratory applications in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry has been offering Master Science (M.Sc.) and Doctorate (Ph.D.) degrees at the Graduate School of Health Sciences since 1993. Seven professors, 5 associate professors, 1 lecturer and 1 research assistan are currently working in the department. The Doctorate degree requires coursework and research. Students should take qualification exams at the end of courses. After succeeding in exams, students have to conduct original research under the guidance of a supervisor and prepare a dissertation. After the submission of dissertation, students should defend their completed research orally before a jury of five experts. Student require about four years after the Master's program to complete the Doctorate (Ph.D.) Program.
