Program Objectives

The Emergency and Disaster Management Associate Degree Program was opened to meet the demand for trained manpower from public institutions and organizations, local governments, private institutions and non-governmental organizations serving in this field. For this purpose, it is aimed to increase the capacity to effectively cope with emergencies and disasters and to train personnel with the knowledge and skills needed in the field of Emergency and Disaster Management.

Internship

There is a mandatory 20-day internship in the Emergency and Disaster Management Associate Degree Program.

Students must complete their compulsory internship at any time after the 2nd semester final exam, it cannot be divided into different time periods.

Students can do their internship at workplaces with areas of activity such as;

Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of Interior AFAD, Red Crescent, Municipalities, emergency, disaster management, search and rescue, health services in emergency situations, security in disaster areas, security services in emergency events, urban planning and urban transformation, disaster and emergency coordination, disaster and emergency response, safe urbanization.


Internship Exemption

According to the Anadolu University Open Education, Economics and Business Faculties Internship Directive Accepted by the Anadolu University Senate's Decision No. 8/1 dated 09.03.2021;

In programs with compulsory internship, students may be exempted from internship by the decision of the Faculty Board of Directors if they officially document the following conditions:

Having worked in the sector related to their program, in the relevant unit and in the professional field as an insured person subject to SGK for at least the compulsory internship period,
Having completed an internship in another higher education institution for the compulsory internship period related to the professional field of the program they are registered in.

Students who are registered to Open Education System Programs in Turkey and request exemption, if they document the above-mentioned conditions, shall send all the documents they can obtain (cover letter, transcript, grade status document showing that they worked in the relevant sector and relevant unit, document showing that they have done an internship before, etc.) with a petition to be delivered to the Internship and Practice Courses Coordinatorship.

Students who are registered to Open Education System Programs abroad and request exemption, if they document the above-mentioned situations, shall hand-deliver or mail a sworn Turkish translation of all documents they will obtain to the Anadolu University Open Education Faculty Registration Center to which they are affiliated with a petition.

TEMPORARY ARTICLE: Article 14, subparagraphs (a) and (c) of the “Anadolu University Open Education, Economics and Business Administration Faculties Student Internship Directive”, accepted by Senate decision numbered 7/5 dated 29/09/2015, shall be applied to students who were registered to the programs before the effective date of this directive. Evaluation of Exams and Passing Courses

The evaluation of exams and the system for passing courses are determined according to the "Anadolu University Open Education, Economics and Business Faculties Education-Teaching and Exam Regulation" and the "Anadolu University Open Education, Economics and Business Faculties Education-Teaching and Exam Application Principles" prepared based on the authority granted by this regulation and the "Anadolu University Open Education, Economics and Business Faculties Student Evaluation System Principles".

Graduation Requirements

Students who have taken 120 ECTS credits in the Emergency and Disaster Management Associate Degree Program, successfully completed all courses, have no FF, YZ, DZ grades, have a General Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.00 and fulfilled other obligations can graduate. Students cannot graduate with a credit below these credits.

Students who meet the graduation requirements in the Emergency and Disaster Management Associate Degree Program receive the “Diploma of the Open Education Faculty Emergency and Disaster Management Associate Degree Program”.
Vertical Transfer Opportunities

Students who graduate from the Emergency and Disaster Management Associate Degree Program must take the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) administered by the Evaluation, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) in order to continue their undergraduate education from the 5th semester of their regular education or open education undergraduate programs.

Students who graduate from this program can access detailed information from the 2024 Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) Guide for Graduates of Vocational Schools and Open Education Associate Degree Programs, which shows the undergraduate programs they can apply to within the scope of vertical transfer, the conditions of these programs and the number of students to be admitted to these programs. This guide includes principles and rules regarding how candidates can apply, how to make undergraduate program preferences, exam, evaluation and placement procedures, procedures to be carried out by vocational school directorates and open education associate degree programs.

Job Opportunities

Graduates who successfully complete the Emergency and Disaster Management Associate Degree Program will have sufficient knowledge and skills to use today's scientific and technological infrastructure in the field of "Emergency and Disaster Management".

Students who successfully complete the program and receive the title of "Emergency and Disaster Management Technician" may have the opportunity to work in various public institutions and organizations such as the Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), Provincial Disaster and Emergency Directorates, AFAD Search and Rescue Unit Directorate, as well as the Ministry of Health Emergency Health Services General Directorate and Hospitals, the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Local Administrations, in the private sector, and in non-governmental organizations such as the Red Crescent and UMKE (National Medical Rescue Team).

In the face of disasters and emergencies experienced in our country, it has become necessary to put forward new approaches to solve the problem in parallel with the advances in science and technology. It is observed that the relevant institutions and organizations, especially the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and the Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency, which are active in this regard, play an active role in the process of implementing these new approaches. In addition, it is observed that the needs for the establishment of relevant standards, the establishment of data management centers and information systems, the preparation of legislation, and the increase of public awareness of new approaches continue to increase day by day. In this respect, it is possible to add emergency and disaster management technicians to take part in the studies to be carried out in these areas.
