Our fundamental mission is to bring together all layers of makam-based Turkish music—whether urban or rural, folk or art—under the common denominator of makamsal tradition, approaching it from both performance and research perspectives, and producing scientific and artistic knowledge in this field. The Turkish Music Proficiency in Art Program not only graduates Turkish music performers who have reached an advanced level in performance practices but also focuses on makam-based theory, such as makam analysis and seyir analysis. It raises awareness of cutting-edge computational musicology techniques for makam analysis, guides students interested in historiography through historical musicology methods, directs research on compositional techniques through makam-based composition, and supports those interested in transcription through old edvar reading and translating practices. This program is designed to serve as a guiding framework, enabling students to conduct research in numerous subfields required by the discipline.
