Meaning, exegesis (tafseer), interpretation (ta’wil) and translation concepts. Main sources on the history of Qur’ânic Commentary. Appearance and development of Tafseer. First historical periods of Tafseer: interpretations of the Prophet Muhammad, his companions and successors (Tâbi’een), schools of classical Tafseer. The codification of Tafseer: in the Hadith collections and in separate books. Main tafseer categories: narrative and non-narrative. Contemporary Tafsir Movements: Social, Scientific, Literary, Historical, Thematic Commentaries. |
