Week - 1 Concept map: public space, public art, publics; seminar procedures and the presentation schedule.
Week - 2 Theory of the public sphere: the structural transformation of the public sphere (Habermas).
Week - 3 Critiques of publicness: agonistic public space (Mouffe); art and the politics of space.
Week - 4 The monument tradition: power, representation, and nation-building; Republican-era monumental sculpture in Türkiye.
Week - 5 From the monument to the expanded field (Krauss); the public crisis of modern sculpture and the Tilted Arc case.
Week - 6 Site-specificity: phenomenological, institutional, and discursive conceptions of site (Kwon).
Week - 7 Case-analysis methodology: description–context–theory, formulating a research question, using sources; preparing the proposal file.
Week - 8 Midterm evaluation
Week - 9 Memory and the counter-monument (Young); monument removals and current debates.
Week - 10 The city, everyday life, and public man: the right to the city and the production of space (Lefebvre).
Week - 11 Public sculpture in Türkiye: symposium culture, municipal practices, censorship, and cases of iconoclasm.
Week - 12 Case seminars I: presentation and discussion of student cases within theoretical frameworks.
Week - 13 Case seminars II and writing workshop: peer and supervisor critique of drafts.
Week - 14 End of term: presentation of case-analysis papers and overall evaluation.
