Aims of the Course

Week - 1 Term map: two strands (contemporary models / local fieldwork research and project); introduction of the final options.
Week - 2 New genre public art: from spectator to participant (Lacy).
Week - 3 The aesthetics and ethics of participation: antagonism and the critique of participatory art (Bishop).
Week - 4 Dialogical and community-based practices (Kester); temporary and event-based works.
Week - 5 Commissioning, policy, and curating: percent-for-art models, briefs and competition systems; examples from Türkiye.
Week - 6 Field methodology: documentation standards for a public sculpture inventory; Eskişehir survey plan and task allocation.
Week - 7 Fieldwork: on-site session — city walk, inventory recording, and reading the site.
Week - 8 Midterm evaluation: submission and discussion of project proposal files; interim report on the shared inventory.
Week - 9 Project development I: site selection based on fieldwork and inventory findings; conceptual framework and sketches; individual supervision.
Week - 10 Project development II: scale-model (maquette) making; material and structural decisions.
Week - 11 Project development III: refining the maquette; siting studies (photomontage, diagrams); technical solutions.
Week - 12 Boards and dossier workshop: visual and technical boards, a short theoretical rationale, and presentation design.
Week - 13 Preliminary presentations: critique of maquette and board drafts; revision plan.
Week - 14 Final presentations: project dossier, scale model, and oral presentation; overall evaluation.
