Aims of the Course This course aims to critically examine the concept of childhood, its historical transformation, child rights (UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation rights), and child protection/juvenile justice systems based on rights-based approaches, human dignity, non-maleficence, and social justice principles. The course addresses children's bio-psycho-social development, child poverty, neglect and abuse, juvenile delinquency, child labor, street children, children affected by migration, and technology addiction at micro, mezo, and macro system levels. Centering the best interests of the child, emancipatory practice, participatory methodologies, and indigenous knowledge, it aims to enable students to construct rights-based, ethical, holistic, and empowering social work interventions with children through case studies, play communication, and limited creative drama/role-playing techniques.
