The Department of Turkish Language and Literature started the undergraduate programme in 1999. After a compulsory intensive English course in the first year, a four-year Bachelor's programme is offered. The department consists of five programs: Modern Turkish Language, Modern Turkish Literature, Old Turkish Literature, Folklore and Old Turkic Language. Turkish Language and Literature is an interdisciplinary field of science that interacts with language, literature, linguistics, folklore, history, documentation, sociology, education, etc. Turkish Language and Literature is a field that studies the historical development of Turkish, the relationship between language and mind; and the relationship between language and culture. In the programme, texts of Folklore, Old Turkic, Old Turkish Literature and Modern Turkish Literature are used to understand historical development of Turkish Language. Analyses of major literary masterpieces of the World Literature are also within the scope of our undergraduate programme. The department is located at Faculty of Humanities in Yunus Emre Campus of Anadolu University.  30 students were accepted to programme each year. The department is administered by one head of department and two co-head of department. There is an executive secretary.There are 9 professors, 8 associate professors, 5 assists. Prof. Dr., 1 lecturer Dr., 1 lecturer, 3 research assistants in the department. The decisions related with the department are made by the department academic board which is composed of all faculty members of the department. Graduates can work as researchers in their fields, academics, teachers or archivists. They can also find career opportunities in libraries or museums.
