  • Profile of the Programme

The theory program aims to equip students with solfeggio, music theory and instrument knowledge at the conservatory high school level to be equipped to carry out academic and pedagogical studies in the field of music theory. The program is based on music theories developed to explain European music and the repertoire modeled on this music from the Middle Ages to the present. This program allows students to choose between professional profiles of 'researcher' and 'educator' according to their personal skills and expectations.

The 'Educator' profile aims to provide graduates with the knowledge and skills to carry out music theory-based courses (solfeggio, music theories, harmony, counterpoint, musical forms, etc.) in conservatories and music faculties. The aim of this program is to train educators who are interested in developing new approaches in music theory education, who deal with music theory education in coordination with the instrument repertoire, who have historical awareness and who equate aesthetic gains with technical gains in music education.

The 'researcher' profile prepares students who adopt and aim for academic production in the field of music theory, with courses such as history of theory, theories of analysis, research methods, text analysis, and text design. Music theory education in this field is not based on an isolated plane, but on interaction with different disciplines such as history, phenomenology, semiology, reception and cognitive.

The first two years of the music theory program are shaped by common courses that will strengthen the student's basic skills and knowledge. Starting from the third semester of education, students acquire the gains to form the above-mentioned profiles through elective courses. The two profiles mentioned are not binding or compelling, students can have the knowledge of both fields as much as they want through elective courses. In both fields, students are encouraged to make academic and scientific publications throughout their education.
