  • Profile of the Programme

The Department of Medieval History is located within the Department of History, which was established in 1993. The Science of History is a science that examines the development of societies in political, economic, cultural and social fields, starting from the ancient times, within the space-time relationship. It aims to reveal the contributions of societies to world civilization and shed light on the present and the future. The aim of the Medieval History branch is to examine and research the period that started with the acceptance of Islam by the Turks and continued with the emergence of the Seljuks and the process of Anatolia becoming Turkey, within a scientific framework. In this context, the period in question covers the most critical period of Turkish-Islamic history, the Establishment of the Great Seljuk State, the historical events that emerged with the arrival of the Turks (Oghuzs) to the Near East geography, the Crusades, the process of Anatolia becoming Turkey, the early Turkish Principalities such as the Artuqids and Danishmends. The series of events that paved the way for the establishment of the Ottoman Empire, the Turkish Seljuk State, the Mongols and the Ottoman Empire are researched based on the main sources of the period. Thus, it aims to be a guide by finding solutions to the problems of the present and the future, to create national consciousness in future generations, and to strengthen the love of homeland and nation.
