  • Profile of the Programme

The Department of New Media and Communication aims to educate communication professionals who are well-versed in the forms of communication in the digital age, capable of critical thinking, productive, proficient in working with technology, and skilled in designing creative content for new media environments. The department strives to graduate students who are equipped in areas such as new media technologies, digital culture, social media, visual communication, artificial intelligence, data literacy, digital narratives, and content strategies.

The discipline of new media and communication develops in an interdisciplinary manner, encompassing not only communication theories but also fields such as sociology, psychology, computer science, visual design, and ethics. This structure enables individuals to become communication experts who both produce content and evaluate it with a critical perspective in digital communication environments. Additionally, students gain an intellectual outlook through topics such as media literacy, digital citizenship, visual design, contemporary technologies, and theoretical approaches.

To achieve these objectives, the department offers both theoretical and practical courses that enable students to specialize in the field of digital media. The curriculum includes courses in new media, digital culture, social media management, content creation, coding, artificial intelligence tools, data visualization, storytelling, digital video production, and marketing. The program also includes practice-oriented courses—such as creative communication strategies, analysis of current research, goal-oriented design, project development, and project management—which are supported by sectoral collaborations.

Students gain hands-on experience through the department’s digital laboratories, workshops, and studios, developing products and projects that contribute to their professional portfolios. Moreover, they have opportunities to meet, collaborate, and intern with leading academics and professionals through national and international seminars and projects. The Department of New Media and Communication seeks to educate graduates who can take active roles not only in today's digital communication landscape but also in the future.

The department offers 30% of its courses in English. The curriculum includes both compulsory and elective English courses, allowing students to develop their theoretical and practical digital communication skills. By closely following the rapid transformations in communication technologies and sectoral innovations, the New Media and Communication Program maintains a flexible and up-to-date academic structure that includes digital media practices.

The Department of New Media and Communication is located at the Faculty of Communication Sciences on the Yunus Emre Campus of Anadolu University. The department currently has 5 professors, 8 associate professors, 6 assistant professors, 1 lecturer, and 3 research assistants. It is managed by a chairperson and two vice chairpersons. In addition, various faculty members serve as coordinators for different programs and activities.
