Weeks Topics
Week - 1 Course Introduction: The purpose , needs, and content of the course are discussed and exchanged.
Week - 2 A discussion on the question "What is Newsworthy?" Skimming a Text, Thinking about the topic, Applying what is read, compound words and Phrase, Assignment: Writing a summary of a text.
Week - 3 "Mahremiyet ve Medya":Konu hakkında okuma ve düşünme, hızlı okuma ve metni tarama aktiviteleri, okunanı uygulama, konunun tartışmalı yönleri hakkında fikir belirtmek. Topic: Privacy and the Media: Reading and thinking on the topic, skimming and scanning activities, Applying what is read, Speaking on the controversial sides of the topic.
Week - 4 Writing a paragraph on "privacy and media": Brainstorming the topic, Finding the main idea, writing supporting Sentences, Writing conclusion of a paragraph.
Week - 5 Listening Two interviews on the topic:"Problems with TV News"- Sharing Opinion; Examining vocabulary in context, Answering multiple choice questions, Listening for main ideas, Applying what is listened, listening for stressed words.
Week - 6 Writing a Summary: Reviewing the information related with the previously listened material, "Problems with TV News" Paraphrasing oral and written material, Organising the information, presenting it in a clear way.
Week - 7 Academic Listening and Note Taking on the material, "From Event to Story- Making it to the News." : - Building background knowledge on the topic, Choosing a format for note-taking.
Week - 8 Mid-term Week
Week - 9 Questions and answers and vocabulary exercises are answered through the listening text regarding the concepts of "Fake News, Disinformation, Misinformation".
Week - 10 Students give oral presentations in which they explain how they acquired the knowledge and skills necessary to practice the profession of journalism.
Week - 11 Reading a text about "Journalism Ethics" is covered with various vocabulary and reading-comprehension exercises. Sharing of clues that allow guessing unknown words, solving true-false-not in the text exercises about the text, and evaluation questions in which students can express their own ideas are examined in detail.
Week - 12 Text reading, in which different fields of journalism are introduced, and vocabulary and comprehension exercises related to the text are solved. Students express their feelings and thoughts about the journalism fields they are interested in through group work.
Week - 13 A listening-comprehension exercise - guessing the words and understanding/comprehension exercises regarding the listened text are carried out through listening to "An Interview". Students' comments on interview questions are shared with each other in the form of questions and answers. Students create their own new questions.
Week - 14 Creating Interview Questions - Writing exercises about various question types are performed in order to remember different types of questions.
