  • 1. Students will learn the purposes of supervision.
  • 2. Students will learn a variety of models and frameworks for conceptualizing and conducting supervision.
  • 3. Students will learn the various roles of the supervisor.
  • 4. Students will learn and practice a range of supervisory interventions designed to enhance the supervisees’ growth in counseling skills, conceptualization, self-awareness, and professional behaviors, as well as the learning principles undergirding these.
  • 5. Students will learn the similarities and differences among supervision modalities of individual, triadic, and group supervision relevant to the purposes of supervision, the conduct of supervision sessions, and their roles and responsibilities in each modality.
  • 6. Students will be introduced to a range of relationship dynamics and process issues at play in supervision and will be able to recognize these dynamics in their own or their peers’ supervision sessions.
  • 7. Students will learn how a range of cultural issues may affect in the supervisory relationship.
  • 8. Students will learn the legal and ethical issues relevant to the conduct of supervision as well as guidelines for handling these issues.
  • 9. Students will be introduced to the research/evidence-based support for the range of topics covered in this course, as well as the challenges in conducting research on supervision.
  • 10. Students will learn approaches for enhancing their self-awareness related to a variety of supervisee and supervision issues, such as self-assessments and reflective practice.
  • 11. Students will develop an accurate self-assessment of their strengths and areas for growth as a supervisor and develop goals for their ongoing professional development as a supervisor.
  • 12. Students will begin to formulate an individual philosophy regarding their practice as a supervisor that integrates knowledge gained from the course.
