  • This course aims to develop pre-service teachers' competencies in the approaches, methods, techniques, and practices used in foreign language teaching (especially English) at the primary school level. In addition, in this course, by examining the learning theories that explain the general development processes of children, by searching for ways to use this knowledge in foreign language teaching and in the classroom environment; by examining general methods and techniques that can be applied to children; by identifying learning differences between children and adults; by learning different types of activities and materials that can be used for children and use them appropriately, it is expected that teacher candidates will be informed and trained on subjects such as preparing lesson plans and preparing appropriate assessment materials for children.
  • Learning Outcomes of this Course: Knowledge: Describe different approaches, methods, techniques and practices used in foreign language teaching at primary school level. Explain the general developmental processes of children and the relationship between these processes and foreign language acquisition. Know appropriate learning theories for children and how these theories can be applied in the classroom. Distinguish learning differences between children and adults. Describe the types of activities and materials specific to children and use them effectively. Prepare lesson plans and assessment materials. Skills: Teach effective foreign language lessons at primary school level using different approaches, methods, techniques and practices. Select and adapt lesson materials and activities taking into account children's interests and needs. Can teach children's language skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking) in a developmental and fun way. Manage the classroom environment in a way that is safe and motivating for children. Monitor and evaluate children's progress and learning in a systematic way. Attitudes: Demonstrates a respectful and sensitive attitude towards children. Accepts the individual differences of children and values each child. Recognizes the benefits of learning a foreign language for children. Attaches importance to the teaching profession and continuous professional development. At the end of this course, prospective teachers will have taken an important step towards becoming knowledgeable, skillful and passionate teachers of foreign language teaching at the primary level.
