  • 1. Students will define the concept of nation and nationalism. 1.1. Students will recognize some definitions related to the concept of nation. 1.2. Students will understand the appearance process of nation as a political body. 1.3. Students will be informed about various definitions of nationalism.
  • 2. Students will explain the fundamental nationalism theories. 2.1. Students will understand the appearance process of nationalism. 2.2. Students will analyze the dynamics of the process. 2.3. Students will be informed about the the theories of nationalsim. 2.4. Students will discuss the basic nationalism theories.
  • 3. Students will understand the changes with the effects of nationalist ideologies 3.1. Students will be informed about the development of nationalist ideology. 3.2. Students will examine the relationship between the nation state and citizens, and its basic problems. 4.5. Students will recognize the basic characteristics of international system developed after the pervasion of nation states.
  • 5. Students will discuss the appearance and development of Turkish nationalism. 5.1. Students will explain the Turkism trends during the Ottoman Empire period. 5.2. Students will be informed about the nationalist policy of Union and Progress Party. 5.3. Students will analyze the end of Ottoman Empire after The World War I, foundation of new Turkish state and the development of Turkish nationalism. 5.4. Students will understand the views of the founders of new Turkish state on nation and nationalism and the degree to what extent they realized these views.
  • 6. Students will analyze the social and political problems appeared during the foundation and development process of Turkish nation state. 6.1. Students will understand the foundation of Turkish Republic and the process of "nation building". 6.2. Students will be informed about the nationalism views of Atatürk. 6.3. Students will identify the relationship between nation-state and culture, examine the instrumental function of science of history on the process of nationalism and nation-state building. 6.4. Students will analyze the social problems during the nation-state building process.
