Week - 1 Conceptual framework of rebellion, anarchy, and authority in political science. The concept of "Nizam-i Alem" (Order of the World) and the "Circle of Justice" theory. Fundamentals of the classical Ottoman order.
Week - 2 Evolution of Ottoman princely rebellions. The impact of changes in the succession system (Ekber ve Erşed) on state authority. Socio-political analysis of struggles for the throne from the Interregnum to the 18th century.
Week - 3 The Janissaries as political actors. Uprisings centered on salaries (Ulufe) and accession tips (Cülus). The impact of 17th and 18th-century Istanbul rebellions on state authority.
Week - 4 Processes of deposition (Examples: Osman II, Murad IV, and Selim III). The role of palace factions (Sultanate of Women, Ulema, and bureaucracy) in power sharing and anarchy.
Week - 5 The rise of provincial notables (Ayan) following the weakening of central authority. The legacy of Celali rebellions and provincial unrest in the late 18th century. Sened-i İttifak: A sharing or restoration of authority?
Week - 6 Selim III’s modernization efforts and the indirect effects of the French Revolution. Conservative backlash against the New Order (Nizam-i Cedid): The Kabakchi Mustafa Rebellion. Analysis of the reform-rebellion equation.

Week - 8 Reflections of the French Revolution’s "Nationalism" in the Balkans. Causes of the 1804-1815 Serbian uprisings, the leadership of Kara George and Milos Obrenovic. The path from autonomy to independence.
Week - 9 The Morea Rebellion (1821) and the Filiki Eterya Society. Intervention of European powers and the Battle of Navarino. The impact of the Greek rebellion on Ottoman authority in the international arena.
Week - 10 A governor’s defiance against the center. The Egyptian Question and Ottoman-Egyptian wars. Transformation of an internal rebellion into an international issue (The Straits Question).
Week - 11 Changes in the tax system and public reaction. Peasant unrest in Anatolia and Rumelia during the mid-19th century. The new authority of the modernizing state in the provinces.
Week - 12 The birth of Armenian nationalism in the late 19th century, societies, and rebellion movements. International diplomacy (Treaty of Berlin) and the origins of the "Armenian Question." State security policies.
Week - 13 Abdulhamid II’s efforts to centralize authority. The Yıldız Intelligence Service and censorship. Young Turk opposition, the birth of the Committee of Union and Progress (CUP), and the 1908 Revolution.
