Aims of the Course The aim of this course is to enable students to study in depth some aspects of cognition and cognitive development in children. The recent research on and language develop in normal and hearing imparied children will be reviewed the pratical implications of the research findings will be examined.

Week - 1 Introduction to cognitive development: definition, content, historical background, and related disciplines.
Week - 2 A general review of the brain and cognitive psocesses I: Input, sensory storage, perception, pattern recognition, attention, and filtering.
Week - 3 Reviewing the cognitive processes II: Memory, types of memory, Information Processing Model.
Week - 4 Reviewing the cognitive processes III: Human intelligence, concept and theories.
Week - 5 Language and cognition: Cognitive processes and their relation to speech and language.
Week - 6 Cognitive processes in children I: Basic and higher-level mental functioning.
Week - 7 Cognitive processes in children II: Development of concepts, casuality, and problem solving.
Week - 8 Theories and theorists of cognitive development and their reflections on language.
Week - 9 The impact of hearing loss on language and cognition I: Relationships between memory and heaing loss.
Week - 10 The impact of hearing loss on language and cognition II: Relationships between hearing loss, speech-language, and cognition.
Week - 11 A general review of the research focusing on language and cognition in hearing impaired children.
Week - 12 General evaluation of the course.
